EPIC FAIL

apparently i fail at being a fashion blogger.
but then again my computer has been broken for over a month. poor thing is totally dead. i overloaded it with japanese doramas, i guess.

i can't do much on this, my mom's very slow old desktop, but i'd like to try.

でもね、私のコンピューターは一ヶ月間以上壊れてしまったんだ。怖いそうなものだ。日本のドラマでいっぱいになって死んじゃったかもなあ。

first try: success?

well the weather was much more helpful today, but i remained as shy as ever.
今日の天気は昨日より良かったけど私はまだ内気すぎた

so i started by asking my ever-stylish classmate Anne
｛さいしょ｝だからまず最初に、いつもオシャレなクラスメートのアンちゃんに聞いてみた

then i went to the student union where i bought a present for crafting-partner-in-crime Bethany, and realized that the lady i bought it from had a very cute outfit
それから学生会館に行ってクラフトの相手のべっちゃんのためにプレゼントを買って、売店のお嬢さんはすてきなコーディネートを着ていたと築いた

so sparkly! now i want to buy some lace tights...
キラキラ！私もレースタイツが欲しくなった...

i treated myself to a taco salad for finally mustering up the courage to ask someone for a photo. (it felt like years ago, when i asked a guy to the prom;;;) the girl in line next to me had an awesome blazer on, but we were both too busy ordering food to ask her for a photo so i just took one of the back of her jacket with it's colorful embroidery.
やっと勇気を出して知らない人に写真を撮ってもいいかどうか聞けたので自分にタコサラダをごちそうした。（何年｛なんねん｝も前に男をダンスパーティーに誘った時と同じに緊張した；；）食堂で私の隣に立っていた女の子はすげえ刺しゅう飾りのブレザーを着ていたけど私たちは注文することで忙しすぎて、勝手に写真撮った。｛ぎょう

but is that weird to take a photo of someone's outfit and post it on a fashion blog without getting to ask them? i mean, if you could see her face well i wouldn't post it but still, i wonder if that is too creepy. i just kept thinking of how on the news they show footage of fat people walking down the street when they talk about obesity, but they blur out people's faces so it's ok. so if it's just a photo of someone's clothes with no identifiable face is that okay too?
although it still feels weird, i think it's okay. and i hope so too because i'm very shy...
でも知らない人に知られずにその人の写真を撮ってファッションブログにポストしてもいいのかしら？顔の写真をポストするわけではないけど、まだ気持ち悪いのか？ニュースでよく見るけどさあ、肥満に関するために道で歩く顔を見えない人のビデオをよく放映されているでしょ。だから誰かの写真じゃなくて、顔をよく見えない誰かの服の写真だったらいい別にじゃない。
まだ気持ち悪いかも知らないけど大丈夫だと思うなあ。この恥ずかしがり屋にとって大丈夫だといいなあ。

so in that same frame of mind i took a picture of a lady on a bench in town who looked sort of angry listening to her music and i did not want to disturb;;;
じゃあそういう精神状態で、町で音楽を聞いていてちょっと怒っているそうな女の人の写真を撮ってしまった。

in addition to lace stockings i also very much want a pair of moccasins.
レースタイツに加えて、モカシンも欲しいわ

if i had a little girl to shop for i would maybe buy these very expensive but adorable mittens and sequin sneakers at the store Essentials in town.
知ってる女の子がいったらこの町の店で見たとても高くてかわいいミトンとシークイン付きスニーカーが買ってあげたいと思う


so that was my first try at being a fashion blog photographer... person.
i would really like to hear opinions on taking photos of people if anyone has any.

it can't rain all the time

well today it poured and was absolutely miserable out.
everyone was bundled up under umbrellas and heavy coats, although there were some fabulous, colorful galoshes on display.
there was a smartly dressed boy on the bus, but there was no opportunity to ask him for a photo.
so instead today i substitute with a picture of me in an old navy sweater dress that i covet.



the best thing in fashion right now, if you ask me anyway, is a dress with a charm point at the top and just straight, loose fabric from the bust to the mid-thigh. whether its a giant bow, a deep scoop neck with lace, or in this case a cozy turtle neck, the top of the dress is a darling accent right under your face. the broad skirt hides tummies and hips and makes your legs go on for miles. especially if you wear opaque contrasting-color tights! finally, i would suggest demure flats with so much leg.
i think i'll wear such a coordinate tomorrow! :D

今日は雨がザーザー降ってずいぶん悪い天気でした。
みんなさんは傘の下でコートに包み込んでいたけどカラフルな雨靴が出てきた。
そしてバスにおしゃれに着こなした男の人がいたけど喋る機会がなかった。
だから代わりに、今日私は自分の写真を発表します。これは本当に欲しいのオールドネイビーのセータ・ワンピースです。

｛ふとうめい｝ファッションでは最近一番好きな衣料品は肩の辺りにチーム・ポイントがあって胸から大腿下部までゆったりしたスカートがあるワンピースだと思います。大きいリボンやレース付き深く開いた襟ぐりやこの場合ではタートルネックが顔の真下に装飾します。ゆったりしたスカートはおなかとヒップを隠して、足が長く見えるようです。特に対比色の不透明なタイツと一緒に着たらいいですよ。そして、足がよく見せるからかかとの低い靴を履くべきだと思いますね。
明日そういうコーディネートを着てみようと思います！^-^v

I couldn't help it! There is just too much great street fashion around here.

So hi, my name is Rae, and I'm a Japanese Fashion major.

The plan is to ask stylish people if I can take pictures of their awesomeness for this blog.

And I'd like to comment here and there on runway collections, trends, etc.

Also I'm applying to a fashion college in Japan for March 2008, so hopefully this all works out and I can continue it there too :D

それじゃ、はじめまして、レイです。日本語とファッションを専攻している大学３年生です。

オシャレな人々に私がブログのために写真を撮ってもいいですかと聞くという計画があります。
そして、時々ファッションショーやファッション傾向についてコメントしたいと思います。
